The Mechanism

Everything hidden when you don't need it

The Zenith is a fully cassetted awning — meaning the articulated arms, the fabric roll, and the tensioning mechanism are all enclosed within a single aluminium cassette housing when the awning is retracted. Nothing is left exposed to the elements.

The square back bar profile gives the cassette its distinctly clean, architectural look. When closed, it reads as a neat rectangular box against the wall — not a bundle of springs and fabric.

  • Full component protection

Arms, springs, and fabric are shielded from UV, rain, and frost inside the cassette — prolonging service life and reducing maintenance.

  • Patented tipping system

The front bar tips to a controlled angle at full extension, keeping the fabric taut and directing rainwater away from the opening below.

  • Widths from 3m to 12m

One of the widest standard cassette awning ranges available — suitable for long café fronts and extended patio runs without mid-span support posts.

What sets it apart

Six reasons to choose the Zenith

Fully cassetted awnings are a different product category to open-arm designs — here's what that difference means in practice.

  • Fully Enclosed Cassette

Unlike semi-cassette or open-arm awnings, the Zenith completely hides both the arms and fabric roll inside the housing when retracted. No exposed springs, no visible fabric bundle.

  • Square Back Bar Profile

The structural square-section back bar gives the Zenith its signature flat-profile geometry. It sits flush and architectural against walls and fascias — no curved or rounded cassette profiles.

  • Patented Tipping System

The patented front-bar mechanism ensures the leading edge tips to a precise angle at full extension, keeping fabric taut and shedding light rain. It's not a workaround — it's a designed feature.

  • 3m to 12m Width Range

One of the largest standard width ranges in a fully cassetted awning — ideal for long runs across café fronts, bifold door arrays, and commercial storefronts without additional structural posts.

  • Optional Integrated LED

Add the LED front bar option and warm lighting runs along the leading edge of the awning — no separate fittings, no cabling compromise to the cassette's clean exterior lines.

  • Commercial & Residential Grade

The Zenith's arm assembly and aluminium extrusions are specified to handle both domestic garden use and light commercial load requirements — patios and storefronts from one product range.

Extension States

Three positions. One seamless cassette.

The Zenith moves between fully retracted and fully extended in a smooth, controlled motion — and stays clean at every stage.

  • Retracted

    Fully Retracted

Arms fold back and the fabric rolls up completely inside the cassette. From street level, only the slim square-profile housing is visible — no dangling fabric, no exposed hardware.

  • Partial

    Partial Extension

Deploy the Zenith part-way for low morning or evening sun without fully covering the space. The arms hold position at any point in the travel range — not just fully in or fully out.

  • Full

    Full Extension

Maximum shade coverage with the front bar tipping to its designed pitch via the patented system. Fabric stays taut, water runs off cleanly, and the optional LED illuminates the space below.

Patented Tipping System — What it actually does

Many cassette awnings leave the front bar at a fixed horizontal angle, which causes fabric sag at full extension and lets water pool. The Zenith's patented tipping mechanism angles the front bar downward as the awning reaches full projection — keeping the fabric correctly tensioned and directing light rain away from the covered area rather than collecting on the canopy.

Fabric Range

Outdoor-grade fabrics built to last

All Zenith fabrics are UV-stabilised and outdoor-rated. Choose the weave and opacity that suits your application — from open terraces to all-day commercial shade.

  • Classic

    Acrylic Stripe

The traditional awning aesthetic — woven acrylic stripes in neutral and contemporary colourways. UV-resistant and colourfast across seasons.

  • Popular

    Plain Acrylic

Solid block colours in a tight outdoor-grade acrylic weave. Works well with the Zenith's clean cassette profile — no pattern competing with the architecture.

  • High Block

    Dense Block-Out

A tighter, heavier weave for maximum sun protection and near-full opacity. Suitable for south-facing installations where glare and heat reduction matter most.

  • Contemporary

    Textured & Geometric

Woven textures and subtle geometric patterns for a more contemporary finish. Suitable for residential applications where the awning is part of the visual design.

Applications

Where the Zenith works best

Its wide width range and fully cassetted housing make the Zenith genuinely flexible across both residential and commercial settings.

01

Bifold & Sliding Door Spans

The Zenith spans the full width of multi-panel door systems in a single run — no segmented coverage and no post supports interrupting the opening view.

02

Café & Restaurant Fronts

With widths up to 12m, one Zenith can cover an entire outdoor seating area. The cassette retracts to a slim housing that doesn't obstruct signage or frontage when not in use.

03

Residential Patios

The standard RAL 9010 white cassette sits cleanly against rendered walls and uPVC soffits. The retracted profile reads as an architectural element — not an afterthought bolted to the wall.

04

Commercial Storefronts

The square back bar profile sits flush and professional against glazed facades, maintaining clear sight lines from inside the building when the awning is retracted.

05

Decks & Entertaining Areas

The Zenith's articulated arms extend without requiring full overhead clearance, making it workable beneath low soffits and shallow eaves where bulkier awning systems won't fit.

06

Hotels & Holiday Properties

Full cassette protection keeps fabric and components clean between guest seasons, reducing routine maintenance and extending the awning's service life in high-use environments.

Customer Reviews

What our customers say

★★★★★

"We had the Zenith fitted across three sets of bifold doors — the full 10.8m width in one run. When it's retracted you genuinely can't tell it's there from inside, just a slim box above the doors. The tipping system keeps the fabric tight even when there's a bit of wind."

★★★★★

"Running a café in Manchester city centre, we needed something that looked the part and could handle the weather. The cassette means we can leave it extended most of the day and not worry about the fabric ageing. The LED option is brilliant for evenings."

★★★★★

"I was worried about it looking clunky on the back of our Victorian terrace but the square cassette in white actually sits really neatly. The fitters from Homefair were efficient and tidy. Would recommend to anyone hesitating over the premium price — it's worth it."

Questions

Zenith Awning FAQ

Common questions about the Zenith — if yours isn't here, ask at your free home survey and we'll give you a straight answer.

What is the difference between a fully cassetted and a semi-cassette awning?

A fully cassetted awning like the Zenith encloses both the articulated arms and the fabric roll inside a single housing when retracted — nothing is exposed. A semi-cassette covers only the fabric roll; the arms remain visible outside the housing when folded. The practical difference is component longevity: fully enclosed parts are protected from UV degradation, frost, and bird activity year-round.

What is the minimum and maximum width for the Zenith?

The Zenith is made to measure between 3,000mm and 12,000mm wide. Below 3m, a smaller open-arm cassette awning is usually a more proportionate fit. Above 12m, we'd look at running two adjacent Zenith units rather than a single span.

What does the patented tipping system actually do?

At full extension, the Zenith's front bar tips to a pre-set downward angle via a patented mechanism built into the arm assembly. This keeps the fabric under correct tension — preventing the sag you can get with fixed-bar awnings — and channels light rainfall off the canopy rather than letting it collect in the middle. It's a designed feature, not a workaround.

Can the Zenith be used for commercial premises?

Yes — the Zenith is specified for both domestic and light commercial applications. The arm assembly and extrusion profiles are rated accordingly. We've installed Zenith awnings across café fronts, hotel terraces, and retail units across the North East and North West. If you have a specific structural question about your building type, raise it at the free survey and we'll assess it on-site.

Is the LED lighting optional, and can it be added after installation?

LED is an optional upgrade specified at the time of order — the front bar is manufactured with the LED channel and wiring conduit integrated. It can't easily be retrofitted to a non-LED front bar after installation, so if you think you might want it, it's worth adding at the outset. At your survey we'll advise on the cabling route from the bar back to a power source.

What colour is the Zenith cassette as standard, and can I specify another colour?

The Zenith is supplied in RAL 9010 Pure White as standard. Additional RAL colours are available to order — including RAL 7016 Anthracite, RAL 9005 Jet Black, and RAL 6009 Fir Green among others. Custom RAL colours can be discussed at survey. Lead times for non-standard colours are typically longer, so flag early if colour matching is important.

How is the Zenith operated — manual or motorised?

The Zenith is available in both manual (hand crank) and motorised configurations. Motorised models can be operated by wall switch, remote handset, or integrated with smart home systems. For widths above 6m, we generally recommend motorisation — operating a wide manual awning by crank alone can be awkward and places more stress on the arm assembly over time.

What type of wall or structure can the Zenith be fixed to?

The Zenith can be fixed to rendered masonry, brick, concrete, timber fascia boards, and steel or aluminium structural sections. The back-plate fixings are assessed and specified at the survey stage — the right fixing type depends on the substrate and wall construction. If you have a cavity wall, suspended timber frame, or unusual facade material, let us know when booking your survey so we can come prepared.
